I started at 8 am in the "balloon trailers". About six to eight GPC and AMCI staff (folks who work with the Balloon) were already there. Our chore was to fill 7000 Welcome bags. These bags will be given away tomorrow at the Festival of Flight. They are recycled brown paper bags with Festival of Flight, Orange County Great Park printed on them. Each bag was filled with 1) Preview Park brochure (with dates and artists who're performing this summer at the park), 2) Festival of Flight Program brochure, 3) Color map of the festival events and booths, 4) Balloon Night Flights Postcard, 5) sunscreen, and 6) a WW II glider. Stuffing the bags wasn't an Ambassador task but I thought it would be fun and so it turned out to be! Ryan and me were the only Ambassadors, besides Melissa, Ambassador Coordinator. I got to know some of the balloon and GPC staff so much better as we stuffed bags. Their energy, enthusiasm and good will is amazing. Working with Melissa and Laura (GPC program specialist) has its rewards too. They know so much about the base and the park and share it very generously. For. e.g. details of the FA-18 crash during a demo air show at the base and the pilot's miraculous survival; Melissa was actually in the control tower when it happened. You can watch the video of the crash on YouTube or here (1.22 minutes).
